Top 5 Chess Players of All Time
When it comes to a game of strategy, chess is a legend anyway. The playful sophistication is brilliantly combined with ingenious moves. In this article, we take a closer look at Top 5 Chess players of all time (as if 2022) and how they were able to make a name for themselves. The mostly invisible moves can be found in a great strategy instead – the right approach and calm in the game are crucial. Many chess players nowadays have their own rankings and opinions – nonetheless there is a world ranking on top of that. Of course, you can ponder different ways in your own leagues, but you can’t bring some moves together towards the end. The love for strategic thinking is great and is enjoying ever increasing popularity.
# 5 Anatoly Karpov
Anatoly Karpov was the twelfth world champion and ruled from 1975 to 1985. After that, he was the FIDE world champion from 1993 to 1999. Karpov was an incredibly balanced player, but his specialities were positional positions, prophylactic play and fantastic final technique.
Karpov became the world champion without a fight when Fischer refused to defend the title in 1975 because his demands were not met. Karpov defended the title against GM Viktor Korchnoi in 1978 and 1981. In 1984 came the first World Cup match against Kasparov and the rivalry between the two would forever change the world of chess.
