Father saved his daughter from dying between alligator teeth

Andrew Grande did not hesitate to jump into action when he saw a huge alligator addressing his 4-year-old daughter.

“When I first saw him, all I was thinking about was reaching my daughter, getting her out of the way, ” he said. “What were their intentions, I’m not 100% sure, but I wasn’t going to find out.”

The girl was with her brother and their babysitter by a canal behind their home in late July, Grande told CNN, fishing and catching crabs.

The alligator was 11 feet seven inches long (3.5 meters) and weighed about 270 kilograms (600 pounds), Grande said.

“It was so big that if it had jumped it would have broken the fence, it was that heavy, ” said Grande, who indicated that the animal left and returned several times in the next 20 or 30 minutes.

The father called a conservation agent, who said that the situation was unusual, as alligators generally like to stay away from people.

The alligator was finally captured five hours after the first sighting, with the help of several people. This was transferred to Gator Country, where they said they were excited to receive the animal because they had lost most of their alligators when Hurricane Harvey hit.

Grande says at some point she plans to take her kids to Gator Country to see the alligator.
